This document contains information that may affect the installation of Dyalog APL.
This file is setup_readme.html and is included in the help directory in the Dyalog installation directory.
You should have received or downloaded an installation image appropriate to your licence type; Educational or Non-Commercial users should install from the Non-commercial image, all other registered users should install from the Commercial image.
If you believe that your image is for the wrong licence, please contact sales@dyalog.com
Note: the installation of Dyalog APL will require a reboot of the system to be fully effective !
If you are installing under Windows 7, then you will need to extract the contents of the downloaded zip file into a temporary directory and then right click on the extracted setup.exe and select "Run as Administrator" - this option is not present if you navigate into the zip file and attempt to run setup.exe without first extracting the files.
If you are installing under Windows Vista, then we recommend that you disable User Account Control before installing Dyalog APL. UAC is enabled and disabled in Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Turn User Account Control on or off. At the very least you will need to run the installation with Administrator privileges. Without taking one of these two actions you are likely to have issues entering APL characters into Dyalog APL and other applications, and you will be unable to write the newly patched interpreter.

Additional information about installing Dyalog APL can be found here on the Dyalog Forums.
Having installed Dyalog APL, you should use the PATCH workspace update your interpreter to the most recently available version. You can either use the PATCH workspace to download the latest patches or download them using a web browser from the Dyalog DSS site at dss.dyalog.com. You should also check the DSS pages to see if there are patches available for other elements of Dyalog APL. You should use the DSS username and password which you received when you received your licence. Note: for those who downloaded their installation image from the Dyalog FTP site, the FTP username and password are not the same as your DSS username and password, and will not grant you access to the DSS area.
Educational and Non-commercial users have access to the the DSS website for a period of fourteen days from the day the email confirming the licence was issued. If for some reason you are unable to download within this period, please contact sales@dyalog.com. If you would like to have continuing access to updates, please contact sales@dyalog.com for further information.
Additional information about patching Dyalog APL and associated files can be found here on the Dyalog Forums.
The location of some of the files installed by Dyalog have moved. This description refers to a default installation of 32 bit Unicode edition on a 64 bit version of Windows; the details for classic and for 64 bit editions will differ slightly. In this environment $DYALOG defaults to C:\Program Files (x86)\Dyalog\Dyalog APL 13.0 Unicode.
If you have multiple versions of Dyalog APL installed on your PC, uninstalling any version may result in the APL fonts being uninstalled. Dyalog has placed a zip file containing the APL fonts here so that you can download and reinstall them.
There are more details in the FAQ section of the Dyalog Forums.
The IME supplied with V13.0 is significantly different from that supplied with previous versions. In particular, it is now the keyboard mechanism used in place of the Dyalog Ctrl and Dyalog AltGr keyboards.
Further details can be found in the Dyalog APL User Guide.
A number of changes have been made to the US keyboard; see the readme which will appear when you start Dyalog APL for the first time.
